I’ve got lots of interesting stories waiting for you. Just grab a cuddly blanket or a fat cat, and we’ll be good to go. At History Unfettered, your witelligence is sure to be fed. We’ll turn those black and white pictures of the past into living vibrant celebrations of life. The history you get here isn’t like anything else on the net. That’s because I include scholarly information from the most prominent sources, and mix it with a dash of feminine flair and creativity.

Who am I?

I’m Nicol Valentin, mom of 10 and home educator for 25 years. I’ve taught a lot of history in my time, and it wasn’t always good. We

went through our share of dull, dry textbooks. You know, the kind that makes you think being breathed on by a room full of garlic-eating Llamas sounds like a better choice than reading that book?

However, over time I realized when we replaced those “just the facts” books with interesting stories, something miraculous happened. The children not only retained the information, they were actually interested in it. Throw in some cookies and hot cocoa and it could be downright fun. After a while, I realized it wasn’t just the kids who were enjoying themselves, I was too!

It was then I decided other people needed to know the truth: HISTORY DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BORING. That was the spark that started this blog. It’s here for YOU, the lover of history, and YOU, the reluctant scholar. Whoever you are, I want you to know; you don’t have to be stuck with the garlic-eating llamas.

Other things I do

Besides blogging, I also write on Medium where I consistently rank as a top writer in History and Culture. Many of my articles have been curated and have appeared in a variety of Medium publications. I have also written for History Is Now, the online magazine. My old site, nicolvalentin.com, is going live in fall 2020. It is dedicated to my children’s fiction and literary education.
